A lot of things have happened in the past few weeks. There were fewer requests in May than in March or April, but June seems to be reversing that trend. All-in-all, we have now surpassed the ten thousand masks donated mark. The Carolina Mask Makers are an amazing and inspiring group. They deserve recognition for all they’ve accomplished these past few months. I am confident moving forward, that we can continue providing for our communities in an incredible way.

Monthly overview.

Let’s go over where we’re at and where we’re headed. Since the last update, there have been 20 requests for 2,387 masks. The team working on masks for Camp Lejeune are about halfway through their 500 piece special request of white masks. We’re also working on a WNC Hospital request for 100 masks and 500 masks for a Triangle area senior care center.

In May, we partnered with Shield Charlotte, and with their help along with The Carolina Mask Project volunteer Lindsay Blietz, we were able to deliver 600+ face shields. There were also around 300 head coverings needed. We are close to completing the current scrub cap requests, but see this as an ongoing need. Volunteers are able to pick up scrub cap kits which include a pattern and materials for them ready to go.

Be sure to follow our schedule to find out where and when volunteers can come to pick up supplies and drop off masks or donate supplies in the Greater Charlotte Area.

There are also special requests not being managed by the Carolina Maks Project but that we have verified and are working to help amplify. For those that have already donated, thank you and for those looking to learn more check out our public donations page.

Making an impact.

In the last update, we talked about where the masks had gone geographically and thought that this time we might be able to share some information on what kinds of facilities have requested masks from us.

Thus far we have donated masks to various types of organizations in the Carolinas:

  • 9 Clinics & Urgent Care Facilities – 438 Masks
  • 2 Dentists – 32 Masks
  • 17 Doctors Offices – 1031 Masks
  • 6 First Responder Requests – 599 Masks
  • 1 Funeral Home – 100 Masks
  • 4 Municipalities or Government Requests – 801 Masks
  • 25 Hospital Teams – 1997 Masks
  • 9 Non-profits – 1513 Masks
  • 32 Senior Care Centers – 4304 Masks
  • 3 Veterinarians – 25 Masks

After polling the mask makers, we determined that it was time to expand our mission and add a few new options for those making requests. Starting this week schools, hair salons, and retail or food establishments can submit requests. Our focus is on organizations with limited resources, so at this time, we will be helping independently-owned businesses and not chains.

If you know someone at one of these types of facilities, please send them our website so they can submit their information and we can begin working to meet their needs as quickly as possible. All they have to do is hit that request button on the front page or in our menu.

What we still need.

This month we are looking for donations of 12-16 gauge vinyl to help us create masks for the Deaf or hard of hearing community. These masks offer a window that makes the mouth visible and can be helpful when interacting with kids as well. Please contact us using the form in the sidebar if you are interested in assisting with this goal.

We have been busy shipping items to volunteers all over the Carolinas. The fund helps us purchase supplies and shipping for making or sending masks. Please help us by donating or sharing our fundraiser with your social networks so we can continue our efforts.

I would like to thank all of the hard work by our volunteers, the life-saving efforts of the people and organizations we support, and the donors that help make this all possible. Together we celebrate the love and unity of all Carolinians, as a team, we will make it through these trying times.

I can’t get the “Support the Project” button to take me to the donation page.
